How to get your vaccination records in California

In California, look up your or your child's vaccination record online with the state's Digital Vaccine Record, which draws on the California Immunization Registry (CAIR2) (CDPH). If doses are missing, ask the doctor's office or pharmacy that gave them, then the CAIR2 Help Desk.

This page is about getting a copy of a record. It doesn't cover which vaccines anyone needs: ask your doctor or pharmacist about that.

Steps

  1. Open the Digital Vaccine Record and follow its steps to find your or your child's record. CDPH says you can "download a copy of your immunization record from CAIR" (CDPH).
  2. If a dose is missing, check with the provider who gave it. CDPH says "some doses may not show on the DVR" because some providers don't yet take part in CAIR, or reports can lag (CDPH).
  3. Still stuck? CDPH lists the CAIR2 Help Desk, 800-578-7889 or CAIRHelpdesk@cdph.ca.gov, for questions about its record forms and process (CDPH).

Adult records

California's registry covers adults too. CDC's summary of California's rules says "Adults are included in the IIS with no possibility to opt out." (CDC). You can still ask to limit who sees it: CDPH's forms page covers how to "decline to share" (CDPH).

Questions people ask

Can I get my child's vaccination record online in California?

Yes. The Digital Vaccine Record gives "access to only their own or their child’s record" (CDPH). Follow the portal's steps.

Is the Digital Vaccine Record an official record?

CDPH says "the DVR can be used for school/childcare entry and work" (CDPH).

Why are some of my shots missing?

CDPH says "some doses may not show on the DVR" because "some providers don’t yet participate in CAIR or there could be a lag in reporting" (CDPH). Ask the provider who gave the shot for their record.

Keep a copy

Once you have the record, save the PDF or a photo where you can find it before the next school, camp, or travel form, and keep a copy in your medical binder.

Or add it to Kasane, now on the App Store: it reads each dose and its date for you to confirm, and Ask can tell you when a shot was given. Download Kasane, free for the first week.

Ask in Kasane, about Robert. The question: Which shots are on Dad's vaccine record, and when was each one given? The answer lists the shots on Robert's record, newest first: Influenza, high dose, 2025-10-25; Shingles (recombinant), dose 2, 2024-08-25; Shingles (recombinant), dose 1, 2024-06-25; Pneumococcal conjugate (PCV20), 2024-03-25; Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough), 2020-12-25. Then: The last flu shot was a year ago today, and nothing newer is recorded. If he hasn't had this season's dose yet, it may be worth asking his clinician or pharmacist about it. Below it is a source chip: Influenza, high dose.
Fictional example · KasaneEvery dose, one question away. Ana added Robert's vaccine record as a PDF, and Kasane read each dose for her to confirm. Now Ask lists them from the record, each one linked to where it came from, and notices when one is worth asking his clinician about.
