Welcome to Kasane! We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal health information responsibly. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use the Kasane mobile application ("App").

Your data lives on your device

All your data is stored on-device. If you use Sign in with Apple, it syncs to iCloud on Apple's servers. We have no servers and never have access to your personal health data.

AI is core to Kasane

Kasane is built around AI-powered personalized behavior change. AI features cannot be disabled because they are fundamental to how the app works. If you are not comfortable with health context data being sent to Anthropic for processing, Kasane is not the right fit.

We send the minimum data necessary

We never send raw wearable streams, lab PDFs, or HealthKit records over the wire. Your health data is distilled on-device into brief context summaries โ€” only what's needed to generate your personalized plan.

Anthropic does not train on your data

Data sent through Anthropic's API is not used for model training. They retain inputs and outputs for up to 7 days for safety monitoring, then permanently delete them.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information to provide and improve the App's features, particularly personalized habit guidance and Focus Plans. This includes:

Information You Provide Directly: Your Profile Information (name, date of birth, biological sex, health goals) and Health Context (exercise frequency, sleep habits, nutrition, stress levels, medical conditions, alcohol and tobacco use, family health history, and medications).

Habit and Check-In Data: Habits you create or accept, daily check-ins, streak data, graduation milestones, and voice check-in transcripts.

Information Generated by the App: Includes AI-Generated Content (personalized Focus Plans, habit suggestions, milestone celebrations, and check-in analysis based on your data).

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

  • Provide App functionality (display habits, track progress, manage check-ins).
  • Enable AI features (generate personalized Focus Plans, analyze check-ins, suggest habits).
  • Improve App usability and features.

3. Data Storage and Security

  • Local Storage: All data is stored locally on your device using Apple's CoreData framework.
  • iCloud Sync (Automatic): Your data syncs to your personal iCloud account via CloudKit, under Apple's control. Kasane does not operate its own servers for your personal data.
  • Security Measures: We implement industry-standard technical measures provided by iOS to secure your data; however, no system is 100% secure.
  • Data Retention: On-device data persists until you delete it (e.g., by removing habits, deleting your profile, or uninstalling the App). Kasane does not maintain a server-side copy of your personal or health data.

4. AI Processing and Our Proxy Server

Certain App features require sending data to Anthropic's Claude API for AI processing:

  • What is sent: To generate Focus Plans, habit suggestions, check-in analysis, and other AI features, we send relevant context which may include: profile information (age, sex), health context (exercise, sleep, nutrition, stress, medical conditions), habit data, and check-in content. Raw health data (wearable streams, lab documents, HealthKit records) is never sent directly โ€” it is distilled on-device into brief context summaries containing only the minimum information needed to generate your personalized plan.
  • How it is sent: Requests pass through our proxy server (a Cloudflare Worker at api.kasanelife.com). This server exists solely to keep the API key server-side. Our proxy does not log, store, or inspect request or response content.
  • Anthropic's data handling: Anthropic does not train on data sent through their API. They retain API inputs and outputs for up to 7 days for safety monitoring, then delete them. Please review Anthropic's Privacy Policy and API Terms.

We do not sell your personal data. We will not share your information with other third parties unless required by law, to protect our rights, or in the event of a merger or acquisition (with prior notice).

5. Your Control and Choices

  • Access and Correction: Update your profile and manage habits directly in the App.
  • Data Deletion: Delete individual habits, check-ins, or your entire profile within the App. You can also delete your account in Settings, which removes all local data and all data stored in your iCloud account. Uninstalling the App removes all local data.
  • AI Features: AI features require the data described above to function. If you prefer not to send data to Anthropic, you may choose not to use AI-powered features (Focus Plans, voice check-ins, AI-generated suggestions).

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Significant changes will be communicated via the App or other methods. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance of the new policy.

California Privacy Notice

This California Privacy Notice supplements the information in our Privacy Policy and applies solely to residents of California ("consumers" or "you"). We provide this notice to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 and the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 ("California Privacy Law").

Any terms defined in California Privacy Law have the same meaning here.

Information We Collect

In the past 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information:

  • Identifiers โ€” device identifiers and email address when you contact support.
  • Personal information under Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.80(e) โ€” name, date of birth, biological sex (when supplied by you).
  • Protected classification characteristics โ€” age (derived from date of birth) and sex.
  • Commercial information โ€” records of in-app subscriptions or purchases (if any).
  • Internet or similar network activity โ€” limited, anonymized usage metrics describing your interaction with the App (only what is provided by Apple's App Store Connect).
  • Inferences โ€” AI-generated Focus Plans and habit suggestions based on your health data and goals.
  • Sensitive Personal Information โ€” health context you provide (exercise frequency, sleep habits, nutrition, stress levels, medical conditions, alcohol and tobacco use, family health history, medications), habit check-in data, voice check-in transcripts, and AI-generated health plans.

Sources of Personal Information

  • Directly from you (profile setup, health context entry, habit check-ins, voice check-ins).
  • Indirectly from you (limited App usage events via Apple's App Store Connect).

Use of Personal and Sensitive Personal Information

We use or disclose personal and sensitive personal information to:

  • Provide and personalize App functionality (display habits, track progress, generate Focus Plans).
  • Support, develop, and improve the App.
  • Respond to your support inquiries.
  • Comply with legal obligations or law-enforcement requests.

We do not use sensitive personal information for purposes outside those allowed by Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.121(a).

Sharing Personal Information

During the past 12 months we have disclosed the following categories of personal information to Anthropic, PBC (our AI service provider) strictly for processing AI requests. Requests are routed through our proxy server (a Cloudflare Worker) which does not log, store, or inspect content:

  • Personal information categories in Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.80(e).
  • Protected classification characteristics.
  • Inferences drawn from your data.
  • Sensitive Personal Information (health context needed for AI generation).

We enter contracts requiring Anthropic to keep this information confidential and use it only to perform the requested service. Anthropic does not train on data sent through their API and retains it for up to 7 days for safety monitoring before deletion.

We have not "sold" or "shared" personal information (including sensitive personal information) as those terms are defined under California Privacy Law, and we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing personal information of consumers under 16.

Your Rights and Choices

California residents have the right to:

  • Know / Access & Data Portability โ€” request details on personal information collected and receive a copy.
  • Delete โ€” request deletion of personal information, subject to legal exceptions. The App provides deletion through profile and habit management. You may also uninstall the App to remove all local data.
  • Correct โ€” request correction of inaccurate personal information (most data can be edited directly in the App).
  • Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing โ€” not applicable, as we do not sell or share personal information (including for cross-context behavioral advertising).
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information โ€” not applicable because we use Sensitive Personal Information solely for purposes permitted by California Privacy Law. You can restrict processing by not using AI-powered features or by deleting your data in the App.
  • Non-Discrimination โ€” exercise of these rights will not result in discriminatory treatment.

How to Exercise Your Rights

Submit a verifiable request by emailing legal@kasanelife.com.

Only you (or a legally authorized representative) may submit a request. You may make two access/portability requests in a 12-month period. We will verify your identity before processing the request and will respond within 45 days (or up to 90 days with notice).

Retention

We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary to provide the App and its features or as required by law. Your data is stored on your device (and in your iCloud account) until you delete it. Kasane does not keep a server copy of your personal or health data. Transmissions to Anthropic are subject to their retention policy (up to 7 days for safety monitoring).

Changes to This Notice

We may update this notice at any time. When we do, we will post the updated notice in the App and revise the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated notice.
